Biography
Edward Poindexter was a Vietnam war veteran and a member of the Black Panther Party who was arrested for the killing of a police officer after a 911 call was made leading police to an abandoned house that contained a suitcase outside which exploded after an officer tripped over it. The entire case against Poindexter was based on the testimony of a 16-year-old who claimed to have witnessed Poindexter and another Black Panther member build the bomb in exchange for immunity. Both men had multiple alibies during the times the witness claimed to have seen them constructing the bomb and forensic evidence presented to the jury by police of being parts of the bomb found at the men's homes was later proven to have no connection to the bomb. In 1972 Poindexter was found guilty despite a lack of physical evidence and sentenced to life in prison for the crime.
