Biography
Eckhardt H. von Schack Baron Eckhardt H. von Schack was the German Vice-Consul in San Francisco. In October 1914, in the early months of World War I, he approved on behalf of the consulate the arrangements for German funds and arms shipments destined for an Indian uprising against British rule — the central plot of the Hindu-German Conspiracy. He was arrested on April 8, 1917 alongside Consul-General Franz Bopp and military attaché Wilhelm von Brincken. At the federal Hindu-German Conspiracy trial (November 20, 1917 - April 24, 1918, U.S. District Court, N.D. Cal.) he was convicted of conspiracy to violate U.S. neutrality and sentenced to two years in federal prison plus a $10,000 fine, the same sentence imposed on Bopp. His mug shot was published in Butterick's Delineator (July 1918) in the Huns, Spies and Traitors gallery.
