Biography

Deane Mowrer was an associate editor of the Catholic Worker, one of ten pacifists jailed in July 1957 for refusing to take shelter during New York City's compulsory 'Operation Alert' civil-defense drill — an act of conscientious protest against preparations for nuclear war. She was sentenced to 30 days in the workhouse.
