Biography
David E. Scull was a Quaker printer of Annandale, Virginia, who refused to answer 31 questions put to him by the Virginia Legislative Committee on Law Reform and Racial Activities — a 'massive resistance' body — about his ties to the NAACP, B'nai B'rith, the ACLU and his contributions to school-integration suits. Found guilty of contempt and sentenced to 10 days in jail and a $50 fine, he appealed to the Supreme Court in the landmark Scull v. Virginia.
