Biography

Oglala Lakota war leader, principal Lakota commander at the Battle of the Little Bighorn (June 25, 1876) where U.S. Lt. Col. George Custer's 7th Cavalry was destroyed. After a harsh winter and U.S. Army campaigns of attrition, Crazy Horse surrendered with his band at Fort Robinson, Nebraska on May 5, 1877. He was bayoneted to death by an Army guard while being taken into a guardhouse for what authorities claimed was protective custody on September 5, 1877. His killing is widely understood as deliberate political assassination.
