Biography
Charley P. Graber was a Mennonite conscientious objector from Montana imprisoned during World War I. Court-martialed for refusing military service, he was held at Fort Leavenworth. Sentenced to 25 years in prison. (Documented in the Swarthmore College Peace Collection's World War I Conscientious Objectors database.) Archival note: sent to Co. A, Casual Batt. Conscientious Objectors at Camp Funston; refused to cut weeks & grass at Ft. Riley on Sept. 21, 1918; psychologist (Moore) at Camp Cody listed him as “Germanic; nervously peculiar”; court-martialed at Funston on Oct. 28, 1918 & sentenced to 25 years in prison; …
