Biography
Charles King, of Housing Works and formerly of ACT UP/New York's Housing Committee, was among AIDS-housing activists repeatedly held overnight in jail after arrests for minor protest offenses, according to an ACLU account. A lawsuit challenged the New York Police Department's practice of deliberately holding AIDS activists overnight rather than issuing appearance tickets; a settlement ending the policy was announced in July 2001. His individual arrest dates still need reconstruction.
