Biography
Charles Ellis was a Detroit worker swept up in the police terror after the Ford Hunger March massacre of March 7, 1932 ("Bloody Monday"), when Dearborn police and Ford security killed four marchers. When Ellis went to Receiving Hospital to visit his wounded roommate, Detroit police arrested him, searched his room without a warrant, and seized "Communist literature" as a pretext for holding him — one of the many roundups the ILD publicized in the wake of the march.
