Biography

Barton Stone participated in the CNVA Everyman anti-nuclear voyage and was imprisoned at Santa Rita in 1962. He later described practicing Zen during his confinement and receiving a visit from Shunryu Suzuki.

Case

Charges: Contempt of federal court order prohibiting the Everyman nuclear-test protest voyage
Sentenced: July 1962
Sentence: The contemporary report gives a six-month contempt sentence; a later interview recalls a longer sentence and eight months held. Imprisonment is confirmed, but the conflicting duration is not entered as a counter.
