Biography
Barrows Dunham was chairman of Temple University's philosophy department who was suspended and indicted for contempt of Congress after refusing to answer the House Un-American Activities Committee beyond his name and birthdate. His case reflected the McCarthy-era pressure on academics who resisted congressional investigations.
