Biography
Arthur Miller, the playwright, was cited for contempt of Congress in 1956 (the House voted 373–9) after he refused, as a matter of conscience, to name people present at meetings of Communist writers he had attended years earlier. He had just been granted a passport and married Marilyn Monroe; his conviction was later overturned on appeal.
