Biography
Anthony “Kimu” White, also known as Kimu Olugbala, was associated with the Black Liberation Army. He was detained at Manhattan’s Tombs on attempted-murder charges and escaped in 1972. Historian Jarrod Shanahan documents his pretrial custody and the period preceding the escape. Safiya Bukhari’s memorial identifies him and recalls his death in a New York police shootout in January 1973. Contemporary accounts disagree on the precise day.
