Biography
Andre Boutin, of Onondaga County, New York, circulated the antiwar pamphlet "Pure Common Sense". The federal court at Syracuse refused to dismiss the prosecution against him in United States v. Boutin, 251 F. 313 (N.D.N.Y. 1918).
THAT REPORTED OPINION CONCERNS A PRETRIAL MOTION AND IS NOT PROOF OF CONVICTION. A historical compilation later describes him as found guilty of disloyalty, but the conviction, the judgment and any prison record require independent confirmation, and this record does not assert them. An earlier version stated the conviction as established fact on the strength of the pretrial ruling alone.
