Biography
Albert Weisbord, the young Harvard-trained organizer who led the great 1926 Passaic, New Jersey textile strike of 15,000 mill workers — the first mass strike led by American communists — was arrested and jailed repeatedly through the strike year, held at one point under $30,000 bail and facing multiple indictments (including one for 'predicting the overthrow of the government' in a speech). The prosecutions were used as a club against the strike and were dropped as it wound down. He later founded the Communist League of Struggle.
