Chelsea Manning served seven years of a 35-year federal sentence — the longest Espionage Act sentence ever imposed for a leak to the press — before President Obama commuted the remainder on January 17, 2017. She was jailed again in 2019-20 for refusing to testify before a grand jury investigating WikiLeaks. She has now lived and worked as a free woman since 2020.

A presidential pardon would clear the underlying conviction and acknowledge what international tribunals, press-freedom organizations, and the public record now confirm: the materials Chelsea released — the Iraq and Afghanistan War Logs, the U.S. State Department cables, the "Collateral Murder" cockpit video — informed the public about U.S. conduct that the government had concealed.
