Collection of transcripts from Angela Davis's initial lectures for "Recurring Philosophical Themes in Black Literature," her first course at UCLA taught during the Fall Quarter of 1969. Lectures outline the causes and perpetuation of oppression. They also deal with the psychological nature of the oppressor and the oppressed, the process by which the latter becomes conscious of their own oppression and the way in which they triumph over it. Includes introduction describing Davis's appointment as Assistant Professor at UCLA, the setting and size of her classes, and the Regents of the University
